Week 33 (August 14 - August 20)

(This was originally posted when I completed 26 weeks, but I started in Feb so the weeks were a little off.)

I have made it half way through my yearlong blog project. People have asked what is it like to see what you did a year ago and eleven years ago every week. It is bizarre and wonderful. What I did in the year 2000 and the complexities of each postcard actually sometimes overwhelms me. I have not looked at them in at least eight years, and have not examined them so closely since I made them. I also laugh at the simplicity of what I collected in 2010. But with both, I am amazed at what I remember by just looking at the items. Even the smallest item from last year can trigger so many memories, while sometimes the objects still remain a mystery to me. I have realized how similar my patterns from last year are to this current year. The extreme detail that I recorded and saved from 2000 helps me remember my life from father back and also see reoccurring patterns. For both years it is so strange to look back on your life and remember the small crazy details.

Sometimes I get nervous that I am not doing a collection project about this year, and therefore will not remember enough about what I am doing right now. I ultimately tell myself that I have done enough and that is not what this year is about. A lot happened to me in the years from 2001-2009 that I did not record, and I have great memories. We remember the things we need to, and sometimes even the smallest detail that may be lost in our collected consciousness, will eventually work its way out when needed. I trust that I am still collecting, even if it is not in the physical form this year. When I started this blog, I had no idea what to expect. It is much harder and rewarding than I could have imagined. It is difficult to keep up, but I am committed to finishing the project that I started. It also makes me appreciate all the small insignificant moments in life that really make us who we are.
